Description

Photorious.Me is a photo competition web app based around taking clever photos. People enter their smartphone photos into themed competitions against friends and other players. Players can then play "Photobombs" (playable game pieces that disrupt a competition) on photos and competitions in an effort to increase their chances at winning. Players can earn and unlock Photobombs as they gain points, credits and level up.

One of Photorious' primary goals was to get people doing more with the photos they take every day with their mobile phones. By creating a fun and exciting game around submitting and rating photos, we were able to give meaning to your the photos beyond their current level.

We were about halfway through developing the iPhone app when we had to shut the project down due to scheduling issues. However I still believe it is an idea with legs and it is something I will come back to sometime in the future.

Highlights

  • Diverse game mechanics
  • Built with the CakePHP Framework
  • Detailed activity streams to keep track of everything that is happening in the game around you
  • User progression through experience points and levels
  • Micro-Economy with a built in credit system
